New generations of instruments and intelligent devices are making it possible for us to become more interconnected—economically, socially and technically. All of these new connections unlock the potential to develop smarter systems that link companies’ business and IT processes. IBM Power* Systems servers with POWER6* technology and PowerVM* virtualization helped the infrastructure scale up to deliver a seamless fan experience while deterring thousands of attempts to hack the Web site. It’s becoming clear that 24-7 application availability is the established standard today; tolerance for outages of any kind has shrunk to zero. For Power Systems, the most advanced data-center solutions are based on high-availability clusters with shared-storage topologies. The capabilities of PowerHA* for AIX* and IBM i provide the underlying technologies that monitor, detect and react to events—enabling automated operations for planned and unplanned outages. In the key area of disaster recovery, it’s no longer adequate to recover vital business operations from bac k up tape s . Ma ny geog r aph ica l ly d i spe r sed solutions is being implemented to address the need to recover business operations at remote locations.
